Will the Fed raise rates again? Answer unclear

For a change, there is a good deal of uncertainty about what the Fed will do this week. Before Katrina, it was a sure bet that Greenspan & Co. would have hiked rates again. Now? Who knows. You can bet the bond market will be a bit on edge. One reading of the tea leaves, based on post-Katrina statements of a few Fed officials, would suggest that the Fed will pause in its campaign of measured rate hikes. But few think that is a certainty. More hints may emerge today and tomorrow.
