Will Bank of America's Ken Lewis survive?

People have been speculating for months about whether Bank of America's Ken Lewis (and his slate of directors) will survive the annual shareholder meeting. The truth, as we all know, is that shareholders bent on ousting management or even passing key reform resolutions are rarely successful, especially at large companies. The New York Times suggests that the Bank of America meeting may be different, noting some huge pensions, like CalSTRS, that will vote again Lewis. Union-backed CtW has been beating its drum, and several proxy services have also recommended against him.

All that said, management will likely prevail, given the high number of shares that are cast via proxy by big brokers who traditionally support management. But the opposition could win even if they lose the vote. The meeting is shaping up as a huge PR show; protesters will be out in force. And if the vote against is high, even though he prevails, the board will be pressured to respond.
