Why Bank of America shut out analyst Mike Mayo
You have to give Crédit Agricole Securities Mike Mayo credit. He is not afraid to get tough with bank executives.
He caused quite a stir when he went public with his dispute with Citigroup management, all but demanding--and eventually getting--a meeting with the top executives, including CEO Vikram Pandit, despite their displeasure with his analytical work.
Mayo's latest dust-up? He felt snubbed during Bank of America's recent analysts conference call and issued a note to clients, as reported by FOX Business: "This action by the company appears to us to be more insular than they have acted in the past, and diminishes our trust and confidence in the results they presented--even if the shares are trading up 7% post call," wrote Mayo, who has been critical of Bank of America management.
FOX Business reported, "But maybe it's Mayo who shouldn't be trusted on this one. People at Bank of America are now telling rival analysts that Mayo wasn't shut out of the call, but rather, he dialed the wrong telephone number, one that was reserved for the public to listen in but not to ask questions."
