So how is the $500,000 cap on executive pay going over in the industry? To be honest, it really doesn't affect that many people. Traders, bankers and the like all still qualify to make more than that. It's really only the top dogs at TARP banks that are capped.

Still, there's a sense that would-be big earners will seek other opportunities, as bonuses at TARP banks are a tough-to-justify proposition. Hence, there's a lot of talk that boutiques are now the place to be. Deutsche Bank's CEO thinks the pay cap will help it recruit top talent. We'll likely see some shifting around of big-name execs and rainmaker types. The $500,000 cap will be just one of several reasons.
