Weak IPO market hits private equity firms
The initial public offering market right now is a buyer's market. That may be good for some investors. For private equity firms, however, the market is a cause for concern. Just 10 venture-backed companies went public in the first quarter, the fewest in six quarters, according to Investor's Business Daily. That has caused some to rethink their exit strategies. Recall that Boise Cascade, which is owned by Dearborn Partners, canceled its IPO this month. For the near-term, it looks like mergers and acquisitions may be the preferred route.
