Wall Street's middle class taking a beating

Ridgewood, New Jersey is not Greenwich, Conn., but it was home to lots of mid-tier Wall Street employees. And as such, the town of 24,300 people 25 miles from Wall Street makes for a good setting for an article on the profession's turmoil in the industry by Bloomberg

The entire town seems to be facing a massive re-invention that is proving quite tough on some people. Here, residents are more likely to make $500,000 than $5 million, and none are in a position to live off their savings indefinitely. Unfortunately, the job prospects are poor, and despair is taking a toll. These sorts of stories are gut-wrenching. We've certainly read a lot of them, but I maintain that for the majority of people, this will have a happy ending. They will end up better off than they were. It's hard to see that now, however.
