Wall Streeters running for Congress

For at least two Wall Streeters, the financial crisis and the subsequent government bailout attempts spell political opportunity. Christopher Paige, general counsel for Paige Capital Management, a small hedge fund co-founded by his wife, has announced he will run for Congress in Eastern Pennsylvania.

Peter Schiff, a money manager who won fame for predicting the financial meltdown, has announced plans to run against Connecticut 's senior senator Chris Dodd. Both upstarts are counting on public anger at the massive bailout of Wall Street firms, which both think was botched.

It may be tricky running on what amounts to a platform of superior financial expertise. Paige in particular will have to work not to be seen as a shill for the hedge fund industry. It may be premature to say that these moves are part of a profound backlash against the bailout efforts. But coming on the heels of Tim Geithner's woes, they are worth watching.
