Wall Street's financial crisis: The movie--an update

We've noted that HBO is making a movie based on the financial crisis, which would seem to be a promising endeavor given its success with Recount, a terrific movie based on the epic battle in Florida in the Bush vs. Gore election.

The latest news is that HBO has inked William Hurt to play Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Curtis Hanson to direct the film titled Too Big To Fail. Shooting is scheduled to begin in early fall, according to deadline.com.

The script is based on a book by New York Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin. Originally, the plan was to develop a script from a book by Bethany McLean and Joe Nocera, but the manuscript was not finished in time. They remain consultants on the project. The odd man out may be Charlie Gasparino of Fox Business, who also wrote a book on the crisis.

Casting decisions will likely be made soon about Timothy Geithner, Ben Bernanke, and others. My sense is that an actor could really run wild with two characters--Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase (Jamie Dimon news) and Richard Fuld of Lehman Brothers (Richard Fuld news).
