VC bets on green technology

So what's the next big thing in venture capital? After biotechnology and then the dot.coms, could it be green technology companies? Khosla Ventures is betting that it is. Plenty of other firms are wagering on the movement as well, but not to the same extent.

The New York Times reports that Vinod Khosla, who has been investing his own money in green technology companies, has raised $1.1 billion for two funds that will focus on green technology and green information technology start-ups. The two funds represent the largest amount raised by a VC firm since 2007.

Khosla Ventures will make investments of $5 million to $15 million from an $800 million fund. A smaller $275 million fund "will seed very early-stage ideas with investments of around $2 million." This is bucking the current trend toward smaller investment, but Khosla seems convinced.
