U.S. Banker had Sallie Krawchek merely on their list of women to watch. Which seems like a slight. According to Fortune, she is the most powerful woman on Wall Street and the 12th most powerful woman in Corporate America. Zoe Cruz ranks as the 16th most powerful woman in America and the second most powerful on the Street. The top of the list is populated by the likes of Indra Nooyi, chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, Anne Mulcahy, Chairman and CEO of Xerox, and Meg Whitman, chairman and CEO of eBay. Which raises the question: when will we see a woman lead a top U.S. bank? I guess you could say Krawcheck would be a candidate, but if a CEO change is driven by shareholders, I doubt they will take an insider. If John Mack decides to leave Morgan Stanley, Cruz, a 26-year veteran of the firm, would seem like the likely candidate. Either would be a candidate to run another firm.
