Trader files gender suit against RBC Capital
Lindy Boville, an ex-trader for RBC Capital, has accused her of one-time employer of, firing her because she dated a hedge fund manager. Boville's former beau was later accused of running a Ponzi scheme, reports Reuters.
Boville, a Toronto resident who worked in RBC's offices in New York, said she dated Nicholson between March 2008 and February 2009 but had no "business dealings" with him. She argues that male colleagues who did work with Nicholson were not punished by RBC.
The firm seems to think she did indeed work with him. The bank told Reuters, "Ms. Boville showed poor judgment in helping Jim Nicholson raise money for his hedge fund and failing to disclose her activities to her supervisors. It is irrelevant that she had a personal relationship with Nicholson, and she should have told RBC what she was doing." She also alleges some rough treatment by men at the firm. She may not be the ideal poster woman for gender rights on Wall Street, but this is interesting.
