Tech deals may help M&A industry
We've all been talking about how the deal economy was tanking. That's true from the financial sponsor point of view. But we've said all along that strategic deals may put a floor on merger activity. Indeed, we've recently seen Microsoft make a bid for Yahoo (a veritable gravy train for the bankers) and Oracle's move for BEA. Business Week Online notes that the big boys of the technology industry--which have amassed huge cash war chests--sense opportunity now that stock prices have fallen. With the private equity guys on the sidelines, this is a good time to pounce.   Â
