Succession battle already brewing at Citigroup?
The rumor mill holds that no fewer that six executives at Citigroup have at least one eye on the CEO office. We've noted that COO Bob Druskin and CFO Gary Crittenden seem to have a good chance at replacing Charles Prince, if--and that is a big if-- they do well in their current jobs. But there are others in the mix. The New York Post notes Thomas Maheras and Michael Klein, co-heads of investment banking. Then there's Aljay Banga, head of the bank's global consumer group. There is also the one executive who doesn't even work for the bank: Vikram Pandit, who some thought might lead Morgan Stanley when he served as president, is being recruited by Prince, wants him and his Old Lane Management hedge fund to join the Citigroup. He would be a force. Interestingly, Sallie Krawcheck may no longer be a candidate.
