Should Starbucks become a bank?

By one estimate, 17 percent of consumers either changed banks or opened an extra account at another bank in the last quarter of 2008. Does that spell opportunity for anyone? The Financial Times suggests Starbucks ought to start up a retail bank. It's not kidding (I don't think).

With 7,000 outlets, the distribution would be okay if it set up ATMs. It could offer "competitive deposit rates and a modest range of loans and mortgages by partnering with a finance company." Perhaps this would even help it sell coffee. "Finally, the name Starbucks has a nice ring for a U.S. bank. Indeed, it sounds more like a bank than a coffee chain." Before the recession, some might have taken this seriously. But running a bank right now isn't as easy as we once assumed. Neither is running an upscale coffee chain.

With 'financial advice' like this being taken seriously...if only for a second, but appearing in the "Finanacial Times" nontheless. It's no wonder the U.S. economy (possibly the Global economy) has all but collapsed. This is the most idiodic idea I have every heard. Please tell me this is a joke.

I think starbucks coffee and snacks should team up with the mainstreet hospitals. Secondly, they should head up a finance institution but in the small arena.
To begin with, most people whom enter the hospital as a patient, often leave the next check out of reach to themselves. Sometimes, family members whom come to visit the patient do the same thing, for the preservation of survival skills.
Therefore, small banking centers downstairs in the main lobby adjacent to a pharmacy has the potential to increase spending and investments;while preparing for the cup of coffee or tea beverage.
The ideology, is seeking out, what the consumer thinks he or she needs. This is convenience, comfortability, infectious quality of service,and thoughtful quantity. Next, conduct a poll, cyclic or simple random, suggesting the benefits and nuiances which come with a new entity joining a monopoly of services.

This idea has the potential, to be accepted as the civil triad, healthcare, coffee, and banking. desired services, which are; all at your finger tips and two to three foot steps away, from the family connection.
