Fresh off the news that the Madoff mess trustee Irving Picard had sued Bernard Madoff's wife Ruth for $45 million: A lawyer for victims is making it known that he would consider dropping a private suit against Ruth if Bernie would give them details of the scam. The ploy worked. The lawyer got his sit-down, and we assume Ruth will be dropped. His brother and sons may also be dropped.

The information was apparently valuable. "What we have come up with is a whole bunch of names that we are going to have to make decisions on as to whether a reasonable person can conclude...they knew what he was doing," the lawyer Joseph Cotchett told Reuters. He says he will soon amend suits adding the names of people mentioned by Madoff. Is Picard also angling for more information? Madoff's weakness may have been found.
