Rise of the econophysicist?
What if we turned our top physicists loose on all that financial data floating around out there. Would they be able to come up with anything super insightful? Well, there's a new breed of physicist rising, which some call econophysicists. The "study of complex networks" is one area where physics and finance might meet.
The Financial Times notes the work of James Glattfelder and Stefano Battiston at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, who "have included these factors in a study of the control and ownership of stock markets in 48 countries around the world." This backbone analysis suggests the most controlling companies are The Capital Group Companies; Fidelity Management & Research; Barclays; Franklin Resources; AXA and JPMorgan Chase & Co.
