Report on Citi, should it be released?

The media was quick to report that Egon Zehnder International had given Citigroup (C) CEO Vikram Pandit high marks in his review. Recall the review was a requirement of the stress tests that top banks were forced to undergo a few months ago. But the leak about the report's conclusions was promptly challenged by some people within the FDIC. So it's a bit fuzzy what the report really said. It may be a lot more nuanced than initially reported.

A Reuter's columnist is calling for the entire Egon Zehnder International report to be released to the public. It would be hard to disagree. The report was requested by the government of a bank that has taken $300 billion in cash and market guarantees. This sort of paints Pandit into a corner. If the report was really glowing, why would he object? Would it give away strategic secrets? I doubt it. If he wants to keep the report private, it will look sort of fishy. You get the feeling that his job is still on the line, and that the FDIC remains very skeptical about him.
