Hedge Funds

New York Magazine has ranked the hedge fund elite. Gone are the days of Soros and Robertson. Today, the industry is dominated by the likes of the top six. Steve Cohen, of SAC Capital advisors, gets a lot of press and comes in at No. 1. The rest aren't exactly household names. Stephen Feinberg, of Cerberus Capital, is No. 2, followed by David Tepper of Appaloosa Management, Eddie Lampert of ESL Investments, Kenneth Griffin of the Citadel Investment Group and Michael Novogratz of Fortress Investment Group. The magazine also named big-name players in various categories. Daniel Loeb, of Third Point, took top honors in the Bad Boy category. The package amounts to a who's who in the industry. There are few industries with the cachet of the hedge fund industry. The hype is building and that suggests a reckoning may be in the offing.
