PE funds look to SWFs for deal financing

Sovereign wealth funds have proved willing to invest in private equity firms. But are they willing to invest in specific deals? We may soon find out. As more investment banks balk at financing deals, voluntarily or not, private equity officials are reaching out directly to possible investors. It should not surprise anyone that they are trying to bypass the banks, which are stuck with billions in hung loans. SWFs, despite the political controversy, are a likely funder, as are hedge funds and even mutual funds, according to the Financial Times. Some think it's merely a matter of time before a SWF steps in to finance a deal.
