Henry Paulson's role as Treasury Secretary has proven to be very controversial. If you thought that controversy was now dying down, you might want to think again. The New York Times has weighed in with a revealing story that details Paulson's frequent communications with top executives of his former firm, Goldman Sachs.

Looking at FOIA records, the article notes that Paulson was in frequent contact with Lloyd Blankfein at the height of the turmoil, apparently communicating with him far more than any other top Wall Street official. During the height of the AIG controversy, which was resolved in a way that was very favorable to Goldman Sachs, they spoke more than two dozen times. Paulson did receive an ethics waiver, but that hasn't quelled the concerns. We'll undoubtedly hear more about this. For Goldman Sachs, this is certainly more fodder for its critics.
