OWS protester gets job on Wall Street
For Tracy Postert, landing a job was a matter of being at the right place--the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York--at the right time.
Her future employer happened to be walking by and noticed her sign: "Ph. D, Biomedical scientist, Seeking full-time employment."
Wayne Kaufman, chief market analyst for John Thomas Financial Brokerage, wasn't looking to hire a protester, according to the New York Post, but he took Postert's résumé anyway. The more he read of it, the more he liked it. The next day, Kaufman sent her an e-mail asking if she'd like to interview. According to the article, the interview was only two blocks away from Zuccotti park, where the protests were being held.
Kaufman offered her a job as a junior analyst, which she accepted.
"I had been unemployed for so long, I thought why not?" Postert told the Post. She's been working at the firm for three weeks now and apparently likes it.
We can only hope this is real and not some publicity stunt. In the past, the brokerage has been involved in efforts to enhance Wall Street's reputation. For Postert, hopefully this truly works out. Most likely, she's not protesting as much as she used to. That said, she can't be considered a sell out. She's making next to minimum wage.
