Overstock.com CEO takes on naked short selling
Calling the scheme one inspired by a "Sith Lord," Patrick Byrne, CEO of Overstock.com, says naked short selling remains a problem, one that has been linked, he says, to the Italian, Russian and Israeli mafia. Naked short selling basically means shorting a stock without at least arranging to borrow the stock first. It can happen, definitely. Whether it is happening more now, when regulators are hip to it, than a few years ago is hard to tell.
