Online brokerages eye growth in 2006
The top players in the online brokerage industry moved in different directions last year. Ameritrade and E*Trade pursued big mergers. Charles Schwab and Fidelity seemed to focus more on core internal services. For all firms, price cuts were a big theme. Next year may be even more of a show-me year. They now offer pretty well-diversified product lines, but stitching it all together in a way that works will be the focus.
