One tough job
Financial Week argues that Gary Crittenden of Citigroup, has the "toughest CFO job in the world." Certainly, he had no honeymoon. As soon as he stepped into the office in February, he was fighting fires. (He ought to consult for the San Diego firefighters.) Shareholders angst. Analyst angst. Balance sheet issues. Even bigger off-balance sheet issues. Swirling rumors about his boss. At least he could take comfort in the fact that if he fared well, he would be rewarded with the top spot one day. But that may no longer be true. The arrival of Vikram Pandit really changes the succession game. It's fair to say it is a two horse race right now. I cannot see another internal candidate. One of these two hopefully will emerge. Â
