So what would it take for Citigroup to turn this around? Well, controlling cost is one remedy. But is it finally time for Vikram Pandit to bow to the pressure, and suggest a break up? So far, he seems enamored with the broad Citigroup portfolio of services. Surely there's got to be some synergy. The danger here is that every move he makes seems small potatoes compared to a cosmic break up. Case in point, the restructuring of the wealth-management business. So the CEO really faces a thorny situation, which strikes me as one for the textbooks. Either way this looks like it will end up a classic tale. But will this tale have a happy ending?
