A new prime brokerage powerhouse?

We've noted that a lot of jockeying is going on in the prime brokerage market. The likes of  JPMorgan Chase, Deutsche Bank and Barclays are rising up to challenge the big two, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. 

JPMorgan seems to have put together a solid offering by combining the services of Bear Stearns and its own service. The bank's Prime-Custody Solutions Group will offer combination of prime brokerage and custodial services. Bear Stearns was one of the few prime brokers that offered custody benefits before it was swallowed up by JPMorgan.

Zacks says, "We think this is the right time to launch the Prime-Custody Solutions Group while the hedge funds are launching long-only funds and seeking structures that allow them to house certain assets with custodians." We'll see if this allows the bank to make a big move in the market.
