Nasdaq to start options exchange
This makes a lot of sense: The Nasdaq, keenly aware of the competition in equity exchange services, will open an options exchange in 2007. A decision by the SEC to effectively decimalize prices, as it did years ago in stocks, was apparently the motivating factor. To many, this might seem to be an area where making money will be harder than ever. Instinet will be key. Nasdaq is convinced there is an opportunity and it promises to be an immediate 800 pound gorilla, slugging it out with the established venues, which is good news for customers.
