Mutual funds off the hot seat?
The intense focus on the recent woes of hedge funds has to a certain extent pushed mutual funds off the hot seat. MarketWatch notes that four years ago, the headlines were awash with news of one scandal after another, front running, to undisclosed marketing deals, to after-close trading. The PR was terrible. Now the anniversary is passing and the industry seems to have regained its footing. With all the reforms, one could argue that the fund industry is as strong as ever. Redemptions are low, and no one is complaining about returns. This is how it should be in the mutual fund industry. Â
