Murdoch to acquire WSJ?
Wow! The Bancoft family has rejected Rupert Murdoch's News Corp offer to buy Dow Jones, which of course owns the Wall Street Journal (which you've probably been reading for how many years?). That puts the family on the hot seat; the premium offered was in the 65 percent range, which cannot be taken lightly. Still, we may not have seen the end of this. You get the feeling the company is in play. Imagine News Corp running the Wall Street Journal. Instead of an A-head, you get Page Six. Instead of pointillist pictures, you get huge garish spreads. How can big headlines fit across the newly thin Journal? Then again it might become a livelier read. Still, Dow Jones no longer owning the Journal would be a huge event in the world of finance.
