Mr. Dimon goes to Washington

Jamie Dimon has, as we have often noted, made himself the most powerful banker in Washington. He's set himself up as the go-to guy for regulators in need of help. He set up a meeting for the JPMorgan Chase board in Washington and lined up Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, as a guest speaker, according to the New York Times. Dimon also asked Tim Geithner, who declined. But who else would even extend the invitation?

His prominence has made him perhaps the most powerful "voice of the industry" at a time when the industry faces a huge backlash and a movement to set new standards of conduct. Even President Obama has singled him out. All this is good for the industry. He is said to have already paved the way for easier TARP payback terms. But not so on warrant repurchases apparently.
