Getting a start in the brokerage business is basically a game of survival. You've got to show that you can cold call your butt off. We're talking hours of phone-spamming. It's basically a weeding out mechanism. So you've got to give a particular Boston-based Morgan Stanley broker some credit for retrieving thousands of resumes from a job site. Apparently, he was going to cold call them. Unfortunately, such calling would violate state and national laws. MA regulators have already filed a complaint. Morgan Stanley responds that the practice was limited to one office and just two employees. Regulators say Fox was given a HR password to access resumes on the site and that the Boston branch manager sought to prevent caller ID information from appearing to callees. Interesting. I doubt it goes on anywhere else.
