More scrutiny of hedge funds by investors
We've been talking a lot recently about how the power balance has shifted in favor of limited partners of alternative investment funds. Buffeted by big losses in 2008, they have been more demanding about information and more favorable policies, even as many of these funds, especially hedge funds, rebounded.
A good reminder comes from Barclays private pension, which is aiming to enhance its scrutiny of its hedge funds as part of its portfolio upgrade, Reuters reports. Manager selection has already been beefed up via new hires. Heightened due diligence and more aggressive investment standards are likely in the offing. None of this can guarantee better performance. But it can instill more confidence in pensioners at least.
