More private equity firms to waive fees?

We all know the balance of power in alternative investments is swinging to investors. Given the on-going carnage, most people assume that limited partners of private equity have more standing these days to extract more from the general partners.

The move by Bain Capital to temporarily waive its 2 percent management fee may be reflection of this power shift. The waiver would probably only apply to the older of its private equity funds, according to Reuters. Those "have little unspent capital remaining and need to conserve that to make follow-on investments in current portfolio companies." We may see some other firms follow suit. They may have no choice.
