More hedge fund managers to join family offices

Is this the ultimate financial status symbol: Your very own hedge fund manager? Not that you'll be able to push them around. C'mon son. Let's get in there and long the ABX. The market's gonna recover. Right? Don't forget. You work for me now.

To some fund managers (hedge fund news), it may sound like the equivalent of moving into retail wealth management. Still, Reuters reports that more hedge fund managers are considering joining family offices, despite an initial cut in pay. Large family offices have apparently stepped up efforts to recruit fund managers from hedge funds to serve as direct managers and seers of outside investments. This is happening at the really high end right now.

Reuters notes two examples of managers who left big-name funds, one to join MSD Capital, an investment company formed by Michael Dell, the other to join a firm run by Michael Milken. We may see some smaller offices jump on board.
