Much of the anger over the MF Global scandal has been directed toward former CEO Jon Corzine, who claims he has no idea how $1 to $1.2 billion in customer funds vanished.

But while he deserves scorn and condemnation, surely he's not the only culpable executive. So it's probably a good thing that the regulatory spotlight will shift to two other executives. The New York Times notes that Bradley Abelow, MF Global's COO, and Henri J. Steenkamp, the firm's CFO, are set to testify today before a Senate committee. In prepared testimony, the two men, like Corzine, basically say that they have no idea what happened to the money and that they are are suitably chagrined.

This is basically what one would expect. No one seems to know anything. The mystery is maddening. Everyone at the top would appear to have plausible deniability. We can only hope the criminal investigators are having better luck. The latest news is that some suspicious trades have been discovered that were connected to the missing cash. Some speculate the funds may now be in foreign accounts under the controls of trustees in those localities. Someone in that organization has to know something. The money couldn't transfer itself. The issue is whether that person is willing to talk.
