Meredith Whitney still swinging at Citigroup

This is what CIBC analyst Meredith Whitney told journalists about Citigroup's future: "That's really the only thing they can do [a break up]. They don't have the capital to manage it as an ongoing entity." (She is not daunted by the threats she received a few days ago. Not with Death Mask by her side.) So far the bank has no plans to cut dividends or sell assets. But restive shareholders and powerful analysts are making it tough to hold that line. The danger here is that potential CEO candidates are being boxed into a strategy that has been broadly dictated by shareholders. Who would want that job? Still you have to give Whitney credit for boldness of her views. She is a looming force, alongside Michael Mayo.
