Madoff's real life behind bars

We've seen some pretty sensationalistic stories of what life has been like for jailbird Bernard Madoff (Bernard Madoff news), the Ponzi Scheme master. We've heard stories of health problems and fist fights and braggadocio sessions with other big name inmates, like Jonathan Pollard.

Some people are convinced Madoff has it easy, in a place with "a library, a gym, pool tables, a chapel, a volleyball court, and an Indian sweat lodge," as one account put it.

CNBC tries to separate fact from fiction. It notes he receives regularly visits from his wife, that he must rise at 6 a.m., that sort of thing, but it falls short of a definitive account.

One interesting tidbit is that Madoff is said to be angry with executives of all those feeder funds who have denied knowledge of the Madoff fraud, painting themselves as victims. While CNBC's source "did not suggest the fund managers knew about Madoff's fraud, Madoff apparently believes that the managers should own up to the fact--as he did--that the investment gains were fictitious."
