Madoff family still in the cross hairs

Irving Picard is not resting in his quest to recover assets that flowed from Bernie Madoff's empire of fraud. And that spells trouble for Madoff's family. Bernard was turned in by his two sons, who have long argued they had nothing to do with the fraud, as have other family members. Picard has never been convinced of that, and he scored a win against the family when they agreed to freeze assets pending the resolution of $200 million lawsuit Picard has filed against them, reports the New York Times.

According to the suit, son Andrew Madoff deposited less than $1 million into his Madoff investment accounts but withdrew $17 million through "brazenly fabricated transactions." Brother Peter deposited $32,146 but withdrew more than $16 million. The family is not admitting any guilt. But the agreements call for them to refrain from selling assets or taking on debts of more than $1,000. They can use credit cards for living expenses.
