When it was announced that John Mack would step down as CEO of Morgan Stanley (MS) in favor of James Gorman, some immediately wondered how the transition would work. Especially given that Mack would remain as chairman for two more years. Mack seems sensitive to the issue.

In a wide ranging interview with Bloomberg, he said he would not attend any management committee meetings for the first six months of the Gorman era. He pledged as much to Gorman apparently. "I don't want anyone looking at me and looking at him. They just look at him," he told the news service. Gorman will likely still feel pressure to take a go-slow approach when it comes to deviating from the Mack line.
