In London, things are serious when expense accounts get slashed. The Daily Mail says bank offices there face a crackdown on expenses, forcing many to say goodbye to expensive meals, business-class travel and even certain types of men's clubs. At Deutsche Bank, a memo was issued declaring that the bank "does not approve of any adult entertainment and such expenditures will not be reimbursed." To add insult, bankers are being told to take the tube. Horrors! Even at Goldman Sachs, which has fared decently during the credit crunch, employees have been informed the company would pay for taxis home after 10 p.m.
