Lehman Brothers once enjoyed stellar press coverage

How far has Lehman Brothers fallen? TheDeal.com notes that it was once something of a media darling, sort of like Goldman Sachs is now. A lot of the press the company received was of the fawning nature. Many seemed to suggest that it could some day rival the big boys on the Street. As late as October 2007, the New York Times was writing about Richard Fuld as "The Survivor." Recall the take at the time was that Lehman Brothers was capably navigating through the minefields. Well, all that has changed. Still, Fuld hasn't taken the sort of media lashing that Jimmy Cayne, ex-CEO of Bear Stearns, did. (The Wall Street Journal reported he was a regular pot smoker for Pete's sake!) For that, Fuld can be thankful.

To the best of my knowledge Fuld has not been smoking pot; and he has attempted to manage the crisis instead of golfing and playing in bridge tourneys. Hard to see him capturing Cayne like coverage when he not living down the Jimmy's pathetic standards for CEO crisis management.
