Law firm targets 401k plans

Schlichter Bogard & Denton, a St. Louis law firm, has filed about 12 suits against top corporations, such as General Dynamics and International Paper, alleging all sorts of fee disclosure problems regarding employee 401k plans. The firm's latest move: It has sued power equipment-maker ABB and its 401k service provider Fidelity for overcharging plan participants. The suits also holds that fees and expenses are too high and not properly disclosed. We could be in for more such suits. A recent Government Accountability Office study found that many 401k plans provide sporadic disclosure of fees that hurts participants.
