Laurus Funds wins with small-cap approach
Laurus Funds, which invests in small-cap public companies, has drawn some raves recently for its innovative approach to risk. Laurus Funds backs companies with convertible bonds, essentially loans that are collateralized by the companies' assets. If the company's stock price drops, the bonds must be repaid in cash. If the stock soars, the loans covert to equity. Since 2001, the fund has generated annual returns of 20.4 percent.
