Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR news) will be listed on the NYSE on July 15, completing its long-awaited transition from the Amsterdam Euronext. The big debate surrounds its prospects as an NYSE stock (NYSE news). Some argue that the firm is now more exposed to a wider and deeper investor base, which augurs well for the iconic private equity firm.

They say the company's current price in Amsterdam reflects a significant undervaluation. Others say that investors are savvy enough to simply buy the Blackstone Group if they wanted exposure to premiere management in the private equity industry (private equity news).

KKR's stock indeed is little changed since it started trading on Euronext at the beginning of October at around $9. The stock last traded at $10, valuing the company at around $6.8 billion. As for Blackstone, it went public at a market top, and has languished ever since. It's either great timing or awful timing, depending on who you ask. The performance of the two will be close watched by other private equity firms, who have yet to abandon dreams of also listing publically.
