A lot will happen the week of June 8. For one thing, that's the earliest that banks who want to repay TARP funds will be notified. We'll hear a lot of speculation between now and then as to who will be among the first to repay the funds, but there will be no official word before then. So far, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have applied to repay the $10 billion each received. JPMorgan Chase and a few others are also candidates for early repayment.

On the flip side, June 8 is also the date by which less fortunate banks must have developed--and have approved--a plan to shore up their capital. Bank of America, Citigroup and others are in this boat. The AP notes a major issue: Warrants the government acquired when it bought all those preferred shares. These warrants won't expire for 10 years. Do taxpayers at least deserve market price?  We'll see how they're priced.
