Judge Randolph J. Haines of the United States Bankruptcy Court in Phoenix got some attention when he summoned a senior executive from Wells Fargo to appear in a personal bankruptcy case. He then let a woman filing for bankruptcy grill the executive under oath. She rose to the occasion, according to the New York Times, producing lots of documentation that portrayed the bank's mortgage servicing unit in a poor light.

The Times notes that there is mounting frustration across the country with mortgage servicers. While the process has long been frustrating for consumers, the modification trend has really kicked the complaints into high gear. Wells Fargo has been roundly criticized for its service, but so have a lot of other servicers.
