JPMorgan salaries going up
Joining peers like Morgan Stanley and Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase will hike salaries for investment bankers, to compensate for expected lower bonuses. The plans affect those who earn between 25 percent and 50 percent of their total compensation in year-end bonuses, according to the Financial Times.
While the moves at Morgan Stanley and Citi went into raised effect immediately, JPMorgan's bankers will not be affected until January, when 2009 compensation will be set. The changes will affect about half of bankers at JPMorgan's investment bank in Wall Street and London. Obviously, this is a sign of the times. The anti-big bonus movement has simmered down, after peaking with the AIG bonus fiasco. But there is still interest in Congress about regulating pay.
