Jon Corzine in the running at Bank of America?
Fresh off his defeat in the New Jersey race for governor, Jon Corzine may be intrigued by a consolation position: CEO of Bank of America. CNBC reported that the former governor and one-time chief of Goldman Sachs is in the mix. Reuters later reported that the bank would not deny the report.
Corzine himself told Bloomberg that he has not spoken with the bank, so this may all be very premature. Still, Corzine may like what he hears these days about the board's apparent willingness to let the next CEO run the bank from New York, not Charlotte. And well, there is that whole thing about him being out a job soon.
He left Goldman Sachs under something of a cloud before going into politics, and at age 62, he may not represent the long-term future the board is searching for. But you never know. We've said it before. The pickings for external candidates are slim. You would still have to rate the inside candidates as more likely right now.
