John Mack inventing the future?

We can say this much about John Mack: He survived. That's a lot more than you can say for his one-time CEO competitors, the likes of Richard Fuld, of Lehman Brothers, and John Thain, of Merrill Lynch. You can also say that Mack's not sitting around pining for the old days. Say what you will about chances of success for the Smith Barney venture, it was at least a bold move.

Bloomberg notes, "Morgan Stanley's future now lies with Mack's gamble to reinvent his bank as a company that takes less risk, helps thousands of individuals with their investments and waits for clients to once again seek advice on mergers and raising capital."

That he's doing interviews again also says something. What do you think? Is the new Morgan Stanley off to a better start that the new Goldman Sachs?
