Jefferies & Co., a mid-market powerhouse

Investment Dealers' Digest notes Jefferies & Co. has really fared well as of late. In 2006, Jefferies jumped to third place from eighth place in rankings for deals valued at less than $500 million, according to Thomas Financial. Jefferies is apparently making its name by offering an unusually large menu of services. A wide array of services allows Jefferies to work with a client throughout its financing lifecycle: arranging early financings, then taking the company public, all the while forging a relationship that results in lots of fees. Investment banking and merger advisory work have been the company's mainstays this year. Unsurprisingly, it's one of the few banks that may still be in hiring mode.
